Congregation Sha'are Shalom seeking religious school staff and youth group advisor

Congregation Sha'are Shalom has openings for 3rd grade and 5th grade Judaics teachers for our growing religious school.

Qualified candidates will possess strong knowledge of Jewish holidays, Israel, mitzvot and Torah and have the skills and desire to convey that knowledge to students creatively and enthusiastically. Teaching experience is a plus, but candidates willing to undergo training will be considered.

Congregation Sha'are Shalom is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic person to lead our growing youth group programs.

Responsibilities include recruiting and retaining youth group members, planning and supervising monthly activities for our Gesher (grades three through five), Kadima (grades 6-8) and USY (grades 9-12) groups and maintaining regular communication with members. Government Affairs Associate in Northern Virginia

The JCRC seeks an energetic self-starter to be the Northern Virginia Jewish community’s daily representative at the Richmond General Assembly – January through March.  During the “off-season,” the Associate is based in Northern Virginia to support the JCRC’s mission nurturing relationships with intergroup partners and community leaders, including dialogue programs and engagement with public schools.  Travel is reimbursable, with overnight stays during the legislative session and evening events throughout the year.  A team player who handles multiple tasks under pressure and rolls up their sleeves on the nuts-to-bolts of advocacy and event planning will go far in our dynamic organization and develop strong relationships in government, the media and the Jewish community.

SKILLS: Successful candidate must have 3+ years political/legislative experience, Virginia residency, a passion for the Jewish community, a poised demeanor and exceptional writing and public speaking skills.   

SALARY: commensurate with experience

Description
The Jewish Study Center, founded in 1978, is an independent non-profit institute of adult Jewish education in the Washington, D.C. area. Its mission is to provide classes and programs of Jewish study in the widest breadth of topics as possible; and to accomplish this in an atmosphere where any person, regardless of background or level of current
involvement, can feel comfortable to study and to establish a serious relationship with the Jewish tradition.  We're seeking a highly creative, energetic and entrepreneurial Executive Director to be the new public face of the Jewish Study Center of Washington. 

The candidate must be able to plan, implement and publicize a wide-ranging curriculum, including printing, publicity, and distribution of materials, while working efficiently and independently with professionals, members, laypeople, the press, and leaders of similar institutions.   We prefer prior experience in grant-writing for non-profits, managing an annual budget, and working within a corporate structure to monitor and help oversee all aspects of programming.  As the face of the organization, the right candidate will have the foresight and sense of responsibility necessary to grow within the position while helping our organization grow and thrive into the 21st century.
