Machar Seeks a Congregation Administrator

Machar is the Washington, D.C. area's Secular Humanistic Jewish congregation, with a membership of over 100 family units and a Sunday school of almost 50 children. Machar is seeking a Congregation Administrator who is organized, personable, energetic, responsible, and detail-oriented. Position is permanent and part time (approximately 20 hours per week). We anticipate our new Congregational Administrator will begin working with us no later than December 1, 2011.

Job responsibilities include conducting outreach to potential members; responding to inquiries from members and potential members; working with our rabbi, our board, committees, volunteers, and other congregations; helping plan and organize holiday commemorations and events; and overseeing day-to-day operations of the congregation. Administrator also will be responsible for important aspects of financial reporting and management, including oversight of income and expenses, prompt payments to vendors, and production of financial and budgetary reports for board review. May also be asked to participate in fund-raising efforts including grant writing.

Administrator will work from her/his home in the D.C. area. Hours are reasonably flexible. Occasional weeks may be 30-hour weeks, some 10-hour weeks. Some weekend and occasional evening work is necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Motivated self-starter and team player with positive attitude and creative energy;
  • Willingness to be our organization’s public face, with potential members, with colleague organizations, and with other congregations within our international network;
  • Ability and willingness to work independently, but also in collaboration with others, including small staff of congregational rabbi, teachers and school director; Machar board; and volunteer members and committees;
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university;
  • At least one year of administrative or office experience;
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
  • Solid interpersonal and organizational skills with strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to draft high-quality and accurate written materials and correspondence;
  • Ability to manage and accurately process basic financial transactions;
  • Familiarity and comfort with secular humanism and/or Secular Humanistic Judaism and its principles a definite plus;
  • Experience working for a membership organization, with volunteer boards or committees, and fund-raising definite pluses;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office required, and software such as QuickBooks a plus.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications (salary range $25,000-$30,000).

The JCCNV Early Childhood Learning Center is looking to hire an experienced Early Childhood Programming Coordinator/ Administrative Assistant. The EC Programming Coordinator/ Administrative Assistant will support the ECS and ECLC Directors through:

  • Assisting with tours and the overall daily management of the program
  • Creating and coordinating family programs which will include a few evening and weekend events

Part-Time Special Needs Shadows

The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV) is looking for part-time staff to shadow children with special needs in our before- and after-school programs. Daily activities in this inclusive program range from board games, playground, art projects, homework assistance, etc. 

Being a shadow includes aiding a child with a special need in staying on task, redirecting when needed and helping him/her to have a positive experience as they interact with peers and engage in activities. These children have Autism, Asperger’s syndrome, ADD/ADHD or other related disorders. Hours can vary but are typically Monday through Friday between 7:30am–9am and/or 3:15pm–6pm, depending on what days/times the child is registered for.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Marketing and Communications is a senior management position, reporting to the Assistant Head of School, Chief Operating and Financial Officer, and is responsible for developing and implementing the school’s full range of marketing and communications efforts critical to generating new enrollment, maximizing student retention and ensuring strong recognition for CESJDS in order to enhance its development program and national profile.

Specific tasks include:

  • Design, create and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that incorporates all audiences and stakeholders.

  • Produce and publish all school internal and external print and digital communications, including newsletters, brochures, advertisements, letters, promotional materials, etc.
  • Develop and execute a plan to utilize social networking tools and strategies in the School’s outreach efforts.
  • Develop and execute an advertising strategy for student recruitment and the school profile.
  • Maximize CESJDS’ use of its website to enhance communications and promote a strong sense of community among all stakeholders, attract new students, and raise the public profile of the School.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships within the CESJDS professional and volunteer community to ensure that all staff members utilize proper communication strategies, that messaging is aligned, and that opportunities to promote CESJDS are shared.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local, specialty and national media.
  • Write and edit all press releases, letters, articles, stories and backgrounders that promote CESJDS.
  • Supervise the Marketing Associate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A self-starter with a proven track record of creating and implementing strategic marketing campaigns
  • Strong creative, strategic, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Exemplary writing skills
  • Experience developing and producing internal communications materials and publications
